What I’m Loving Wednesday

Yay for Wednesdays! I only work Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday, so technically this is my Thursday. I was super excited for the long, holiday weekend, but in case you hadn’t heard there is a tornado (thanks Heather) hurricane making its way up the east coast, which could potentially blow my plans all to hell. But, instead of focusing on the negative, let’s focus on the positive. Like stuff I am absolutely loving right now! Pacifica’s Tahitian Gardenia hand cream. My grandmother had gardenia bushes in her front yard, and the smell always reminds me of her. I love the fragrance, but the hand cream itself is really thick and luxurious. It’s not cheap ($9 for 2.25 oz), but a little goes along way. I’ve used their products before, and I’m always really pleased with them. I also appreciate that their efforts when it comes to the environment. photo My new bag! It’s the Ralph Lauren Sloan Street Satchel (try saying that five times fast!). I first saw it at a TJ Maxx in Concord, NC several weeks ago, but I resisted. When we got back to Virginia, I saw it at the TJ Maxx across the street from my apartment (yeah, let’s talk sometime about how dangerous that is!), and when I was back in Concord nearly a month later, I saw it again. And it was on clearance for $99. I had been thinking about this bag & wanting this bag since the moment I saw it, and when I saw it was on clearance I felt like my patience was being rewarded so I bought it. 10430837_10101394547233327_8308515733597335909_n For my birthday I asked for the Polar FT4 heart rate monitor. I didn’t get it, but since I had plenty of Amazon gift cards, I went ahead and bought it for myself. I absolutely love it! What I love the most is that according to this I burn way more calories during Hermione’s walks than the Runtastic app tells me I do. I was surprised to find the number of calories burned on the treadmill is pretty close to what this little gadget tells me. I hate that it doesn’t give me distance, but I knew that going in, and there more sophisticated models (i.e. expensive) that do. One of my biggest frustrations with hiking with Hermione over the years has been that my phone usually dies before the hike is over (thanks to weak signal and running an app like Runtastic) the whole time, so I never get a count of how many calories I’ve burned. This has fixed that. I also like the watch itself, and the strap that goes around your chest isn’t uncomfortable like I worried it would be.

I have a very strong hatred for digital books and eReaders. The hatred I feel for them is stronger hate than a rational person should feel towards any inanimate object. There is something about a bookstore. The bright colors from the covers, the smell of paper. being drawn to things you wouldn’t necessarily be drawn to if you were looking up books online. The summer of 2008 I was single for the first time in five years, and all of my friends were in relationships. So while Saturdays were date nights for the rest of the world, for me I aimlessly wandered through the Borders that was seven minutes from my house. I discovered a favorite author and countless favorite books by looking at the covers, reading snippets and asking the staff for recommendations. Especially the hot guy who worked there… Anyways. You don’t get the same experience on a Kindle. That being said, I love Oyster, this new digital reading app. I downloaded it for my free trial, and even though I still prefer paper books, this app is very cool. It’s basically Netflix, but for books. $9.95 a month, and you can choose from the 500,000 titles they have. I’ve read a lot of mediocre stuff lately, so this is a great way to read a lot of stuff, for a little bit of money. And if you sign up through my link, we both get a $15 credit! oyster-books-lets-you-borrow-e-books-for-10-dollars-a-month_peoplewhowrite I like to read/play on the iPad while I take very long baths every night. And my baths are epic, thanks to Lush. I frequently instagram pictures of my brightly colored bath water, and as cool as it looks, it feels and smells even better. I keep a basket of my Lush bath products on the side of the tub, and they actually make our whole bathroom smell amazing. It smells so good in there, my husband actually encourages me to keep buying them. 😉 I’ve been using their products for a while, and I think I can now declare a favorite: the Brightside bubble bar. It was a new product they came out with at Easter, and I’m so glad they decided to continue with it. It’s the most amazing, sweet, citrus fragrance ever and it turns my bath water a bright orange. This bubble bar is pricier than the bath bombs (this one is $10.95), but it’s big enough that you can cut it in half and still get two baths from it.

Love your new bag! Great color. Ok I think I have to sign up for Oyster. I haven’t been reading a ton (sad!) and I miss it. Now that I have an iPad I think this would be perfect. Plus we both get a credit!! Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I haven’t been reading much either and it makes me sad. I used to read ALL THE TIME. The last few books I read were just so mediocre, I think it kind of sucked a little of the joy out of it for me. Hopefully this will reignite that interest for me.

      And thanks =)

I can’t do Oyster yet because it’s iOS only… hopefully it will cross over to Android and Kindle soon.
P.S. It’s a hurricane moving up the east coast, not a tornado. =)

      Oops =)

And their website says it’s now available on Android. I think it’s also available on the Kindle Fire. At least that’s what it says at the bottom of their homepage.

If I can ever tolerate the onslaught of smells at lush I will try that bath bomb. I will have to run in and out real fast. The first and only time I have been in a store I developed a bad headache within in minutes of being in there. I tend to be sensitive to strong smells.
    Love the bag. Love.
Love my kindle. Love. I cried when my first kindle died. I am always willing to try new things but my kindle is pretty sacred to me. I am already planning my next one if this one dies. sniff sniff.

Buy it online. It’s worth it 🙂

And I wish I liked eReaders, to me it’s just not the same as reading a real book. The experience is completely different for me.

If you have a kindle fire, check Oyster. I love the idea of an all you can read app. One problem I have with Amazon & the Kindle is you can only borrow one book a month. If I were going to buy a book, I want a tangible thing I can put on a shelf.

I have a reading problem. I could go through countless books a month. Luckily I don’t mind re-reading books as well. I switched to a kindle when I realized how many books I had. I had three bookshelves full and enough for a fourth scattered here and there. I just donated a bunch and will whittle that amount down even more if I ever have to move.

I hit up our TJ Maxx again tonight. Seriously – one day we will run into each other there. I will be that creepy girl lurking around the picture frame aisle trying to figure out if you are my online-social-media-blog-friend. Has the hurricane crashed your plans? I think that unless you are planning to head to the outer or inner banks of carolina (like me #wompwomp) you should be fine by friday afternoon.

LOVE that green purse by the way!

Lol 🙂 I’m always in the kitchen aisles. So if you see a brunette debating on whether or not to buy another serving dish, it’s probably me.

And our plans are shot. G works in the civil engineering squadron. They handle everything on base during extreme weather. He found out today they’re working 12 hour shift starting tomorrow 😦
