So, I’m a little annoyed today. My mom and her man friend are coming to visit this weekend (after the hurricane during the 4th of July weekend forced us to reschedule), and of course every single weather service I follow is calling for rain. ALL WEEKEND. In every single spot I had planned for us to go. Friday in the Outer Banks: rain. Saturday in DC: rain.
It’s freaking annoying. I have no clue how to entertain people if we can’t do anything fun. There are museums and art galleries, but that really isn’t my moms thing. I’m not going to force Graham and Dale to go shopping with us (what mom & I usually end up doing). So, I’m not sure where that leaves us.
(Besides me cursing the weather gods for another effed up weekend.)
If you’re stuck inside on a rainy weekend, try baking bread. It’s a little time-consuming, since you have to let it rise twice, but it’s definitely not hard. And the finished product is so, so good. I’ve made this bread by Pink Parsley so many times, and Graham still gets excited when he comes home from work and a loaf is cooling. This bread is a basic sandwich bread, seasoned with all of the flavorings you’d find on an everything bagel (garlic, onion, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, kosher salt). This bread is seriously amazing, and very inexpensive to make. I’m pretty sure most people would have everything they need to make this already in their kitchen, except maybe the yeast and the buttermilk.
And it seriously takes sandwiches to a whole new level. I’m not sure it would taste that great with peanut butter & jelly, but with a more savory sandwich, it’s pretty epic.
