What I’m Loving Wednesday

Back when Glee first premiered, it was one of my absolute favorite shows. I loved the music, I loved the characters, I loved the quirkiness. The relationship between Finn & Rachel was one of my favorites on TV. Their rendition of Faithfully in season one is actually the song that Graham & I shared our first dance to at our (formal) wedding. I quit watching at the end of season three, after most of the main characters graduated, and didn’t really give the show much of a thought (even though my iPod is about 80% music from the show). But when Cory Monteith died last summer, I was completely heartbroken. He was so talented, handsome & charming, and his death was just such a waste. A couple of weeks ago, near the anniversary of his death, someone tweeted about a band he had been in: Bonnie Dune. I looked them up on iTunes and was really surprised by how much I liked their music. They have released two fairly short CDs, and both are really good. I’m sure a part of me downloaded them just because he was associated with them, but I like the music on its own merit. And surprisingly, G likes the CDs too. And we never, ever agree about music.

My favorite musical of all time is Into the Woods. It is completely amazing, and if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out. I’ve seen the DVD of the original Broadway cast more times than I can count (I own the DVD, and I still have it saved in my Netflix instant watching queue for immediate access), and I’ve seen about five live stage productions at various local theatres. If you’re not familiar with the story, it is multiple classic fairy tales (Little Red Riding Hood, Jack & the Beanstalk, Cinderella, & Rapunzel with minor appearances from Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs and Sleeping Beauty), tied together with the use of a couple of original characters. The original characters, the baker & his wife, have been cursed by a witch and need several items to break the spell. Enter the other characters. The musical is truly brilliant and should have won so many more Tony’s than it did.

I was BEYOND excited when I learned that Disney was adapting it into a live action film, especially when they started casting. Meryl Streep as the witch. Johnny Depp as the Wolf. Chris Pines as Cinderella’s Prince. Emily Blunt as the Baker’s wife. But I recently lost my enthusiasm when Stephen Sondheim revealed that Disney is cutting some of the more important moments to make it more family friendly. I was so angry. Why make it at all if you’re going to cut out really, really important scenes.

However. The trailer was released last week and it definitely renewed my enthusiasm.

I’ve decided I need a hot pink chair for the guest room. Right now the room is soul sucking beige. I want to paint the walls a dark, charcoal gray, get a really cool dresser and a hot pink chair to finish furnishing it. This chair at World Market is exactly what I’ve been looking for! I think a pop of color like that would look AMAZING against the dark gray walls. Graham is insistent that we do not need, or have the space for a hot pink chair in the guest room. I’ll wear him down one of these days. Or just go buy it when he’s out of town for work. And he’ll come home to a completely redecorated room and see that I was right all along 😉

The chair is currently on sale for $230, so it’s definitely not cheap. But I do need it.

I love anything that has my initials on it, and these necklaces are no exception! Kseniya shared them on her twitter account a few weeks ago, and I was in love! I may not be able to go to the physical shop in Charlotte but you can order them online. Stuff like this is why you should always check out local shops. You never know what amazing finds await you. And shopping/browsing smaller, local shops is so much more fun & less frustrating than trying to find anything in a major department store.

For some reason I’ve been craving blueberry muffins lately. I’m sure it has something to do with the enormous bag of frozen blueberries I bought from Sam’s Club a few weeks ago, the beautiful blueberry muffins that Luke gave Lorelai and Rory on the rerun of Gilmore Girls I watched the other day, and Graham mentioning the grilled blueberry muffins we had at a diner in Florida on our honeymoon. Regardless of what caused it, I needed a muffin. So, I stopped by Starbucks and had a blueberry muffin and tried one of their newer drinks: the Blackberry Mojito Tea Lemonade. Hands down, the BEST drink I’ve ever ordered from Starbucks. Sweet, a little tart, and completely delicious! I hope this isn’t a limited time thing, because I’m going to want this ALL the time now!

(The muffin wasn’t bad either ;))

These placemats. HOW AWESOME ARE THESE!!! I especially love the “try it, you may like it” one. My mom came to visit this past weekend, and she was less than enthusiastic about trying my homemade shrimp & grits. I swear, she’s the pickiest eater ever. I would have loved to have served her dinner to her on that placemat. And $19 for 6 placemats isn’t a bad price, either! Although I can’t help but look at these and wonder about making them myself…
