It’s been a while since I’ve posted a weekend wrap up. Honestly, the last few weekends have been pretty quiet. It’s been raining nearly non-stop for at least a month. The rain has given us a chance to work on some projects around the house, so I’m not going to complain too much. The biggest project, the mantle, is finally finished and installed! It looks absolutely gorgeous, but I’m not including any photos in this post. When G installed it, it was already dark, and it deserves more than a poorly lit photo.
We have had a few nice days in between all of the rain, and one of them was spent at Nags Head with Hermione. She hasn’t been to the beach in ages, and I wanted to get a day trip in before Memorial Day. It was cool this day, and we had the beach all to ourselves, which was wonderful. The highlight of this beach day was Hermione finding a crab. She is absolutely the cutest dog ever.
We also celebrated my birthday a couple of weeks ago! 33… I remember when I was in tears over turning 25, since that was halfway to 50. So far my 30’s have been very good to me. G and I celebrated my day in my favorite way: good food, doing things I love, and good food. We started with brunch in Virginia Beach, some shopping in Norfolk, and then sushi & birthday cake. My cake was a white chocolate raspberry bundt cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes and it was so delicious. Birthday sushi is ALWAYS a good thing!
Other than the mantle, we’ve done other small projects around the house. Like finally matting, framing, and hanging some “art”. This mat cutter has already paid for itself about five times over.
And once stuff was framed, and hung, our dining room was finished! Well, kind of finished. It still needs a light fixture. But since there isn’t a place for one, that’s a bigger job than we’re willing to tackle right now. I am in LOVE with this room though, and think we need to start having dinner in here every night. It’s so pretty!
Other than that, we’ve just been enjoying our time together before G leaves in a few months. He loves being outside, so we’ve fancied up our outdoor space a bit. We replaced our cheap chairs with some lovely navy blue Adirondack chairs from World Market, replanted some mint, since I hear it helps keep mosquitoes away, spread grass seed, and bought some pretty outdoor candles. It’s been nice to sit outside with him while he grills (we’re pretty much grilling every non-rainy day), have a margarita, and watch the dog play.
